Senior Engineer

First Taxing District Water Department in Norwalk, CT has an opening for a Senior Engineer.

The duties include but are not limited to analyzing and solving a wide variety of production, operations, and other technical problems in civil, mechanical, environmental, and/or electrical systems. Designing, scheduling, managing and administering water and wastewater facility related capital projects of a varied and complex nature. This work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill and ability in public works engineering and civil engineering as applied to utility construction projects. Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff.

Requires minimum of five (5) years work experience and/or training that includes progressively responsible public works or utility engineering and construction management in the area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Requires Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field; excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills; valid motor vehicle operator’s license, ability to perform responsibilities of position. Production Operator (Level 1 & Level 2)

The First Taxing DistrictWater Department in Norwalk, CT has two (2) openings for Production Operator (Level 1 & Level 2). The duties include efficient operation of water treatment, pumping and storage facilities utilizing remote or local controls; preventive maintenance and repairs; handling chemicals; laboratory analysis and record keeping; operate computerized and manual controls, piping, pumps and appurtenant electrical and control systems; and cleaning of equipment and facilities. These positions include 5 eight-hour work days which include one weekend day. When On-Call and during emergencies, availability is required 24 hours per day including weekends and holidays.


Requires high school or vocational school diploma or an equivalent certificate; valid motor vehicle license; good mechanical, customer service and computer skills. Connecticut DPH Class 4 WTP Operators Certificate: (a) is required for Production Operator Level 2; (b) is preferred and required after 5 years from hire for Production Operator Level 1. Residency within 30 min. commute time required. Competitive wages and benefits.
