Land & Parks
From the headwaters of the Silvermine River basin in lower Westchester County, NY, to the edge of the Norwalk Harbor, the First Taxing District oversees and manages over 10 square miles of watershed and park lands.
The FDWD collects water running through more than ten square miles of watershed, from Lewisboro, NY, to New Caanan, Ridgefield, and Wilton, CT. Our four reservoirs, along with the Kellogg-Deering wellfield, channel water into our treatment facility. The Kellogg-Deering wellfield pumps water out of the aquifer in central Norwalk. At both locations water is treated according to strict federal and state guidelines before it then flows into our network of water mains and to your home. We insure quality water through rigorous maintenance and planning that is aligned with our long-term sustainable approach to our watershed.
The District also manages twelve public land parcels and parks in The First Taxing District, from the historic Green to Cannon Street Park to the Andrew J. Santaniello Park. These holdings are maintained and utilized for the public. The Parks Advisory Group, comprised of appointed citizen volunteers, helps us plan maintenance and public events in the parks, the highlight being the summer concert series and the annual tree lighting ceremony in December.
