Elsa Peterson Obuchowski has been a Commissioner since 2018. Previously Elsa was First District Treasurer.


Elsa Peterson Obuchowski has been a homeowner and small business owner in the First Taxing District since 1994. She values living in Norwalk because of the city's history, natural beauty, and diversity of opportunities for cultural, educational, and professional enrichment. A native of California, she holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Riverside; and a master's degree from Case Western Reserve University. Since the 1980s her firm has provided editorial services and intellectual property clearances for leading college publishers. She is the author of the book Copyright and Permissions: What Every Writer and Editor Should Know (Editorial Freelancers Association, 2012).


Elsa is active as a musician, having sung with the Norwalk Community Chorale, several area church choirs, and The Mendelssohn Choir of Connecticut, where she served on the board from 2012 to 2014. She has also been a board member of the American Society of Picture Professionals and the Entrepreneurial Women's Network.


A member of the steering committee of the League of Women Voters of Norwalk, Elsa coordinated voter registration in 2012, 2013, and 2014 and served on the League's statewide voter service document revision committee in 2013. She was appointed to the Oak Hills Park Authority with unanimous confirmation by the Common Council in 2013. She is involved in efforts to protect the natural woodlands within the park. In 2014 she was elected Secretary of the District A Democratic Committee.
