Rosa M. Murray was appointed as the Treasurer of the First Taxing District by the Board of Commissioners in January of 2020 to fill a vacancy which became available when Jalin T. Sead became a District Commissioner. Ms. Murray was re-elected as Treasurer in November, 2021. Her term as Treasurer will expire in November of 2023. 


Mrs. Murray, a native of the Bronx, N.Y., has been a resident of Norwalk for over forty years having initially moved to Norwalk when she married her husband, a Norwalk native, and raised her family here. She has given back to the Norwalk community extensively. 


She served on the City of Norwalk Board of Education for over twenty years where her leadership is recognized by the numerous positions she held including Chairperson, Finance Chair, Negotiation, District Building Renovations, Joint Services Committee and CABE-State Board of Director member. Her roles underscore her belief that all students can achieve. 


Prior to her service on the Board of Education Mrs. Murray was named President of the Norwalk High School's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), was a member on the PTO Council of Norwalk and was co-founder of the African-American Parent Outreach at Norwalk High.


In addition to her role as Treasurer at the First Taxing District, Mrs. Murray is active in Norwalk organizations and involved in local politics. She was appointed as a member of the Norwalk Democratic Town Committee for 2019-2020. In 2012 Mrs. Murray was ordained as one of the first female Deacons at the Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk. Rosa also maintains a position on the Executive Committee of the NAACP.


Mrs. Murray holds a business degree from Norwalk Community College and the University of Connecticut and has served on the Norwalk Community College Board of Trustees.
